News From Bromont
We have heard that some riders from Europe are having difficulty getting to the World Cup Final in Bromont this weekend, because they are stranded in England by the Air Canada strike. Also, some foreign riders, wanting to race in Bromont as a tuneup for the Worlds, are finding out, to their surprise that they will not be allowed to race. World Cup rules state that a rider must have World Cup points in order to start the Final. So when the Czech Worlds team showed up to register, only one of the three riders was allowed to race. On the Canadian team, we have the rather bizarre situation of George Visser, who is not on the Worlds team, able to race, but Guido Visser (his brother), who is on the team unable to race... Finally, it has been raining in Bromont, so the course is muddy and slick.

The 4th Buona Notte Classic crowned Andreas Hestler as it's 1998 champion. With 3 laps to go, Hestler broke away from a 3 men lead group. Jacques Landry finished second in front of Alexandre Lavallee. 40 seconds later, Yannick Cojan won the pack sprint in front of Czeslaw Lukaszewicz and Charles Dionne.
