Stage 3 was the first day with some climbing. With an average speed for the first 2 days at just under 43km/h, fatigue and heat were expected to play into the day.

Will Routley (Jelly Belly) said a dangerous break got away with maybe 2 or 3 of the best climbers in it so the team (Jelly Belly) had to come to the front and set tempo to bring it back. It came down to a sprint and Will got a lead out from Matty Rice who dropped him of at 300m to go. Will did some \'smashing and crashing\' with the Iranian (Sohrabi), the green jersey holder, for a 4th on the day. No bonus time for 4th, but a move up for Will into 10th in the overall.
