A beautiful finale in Nice crowned a deserving queen. Demi Vollering (FDJ United-Suez) won the final stage of the Tour de France Femmes to secure the Yellow Jersey, defeating her rival Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon//SRAM) with an attack inside the final kilometre of the last climb up the Col d'Éze.
The Dutch rider netted her second overall victory in the Grande Boucle by 1:18 on her Polish challenger and 4:29 on Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team L'Imad), who secured the third spot of the podium as Marlen Reusser (Movistar Team) was dropped early on the stage and then fell out of contention.
Antonia Niedermaier (Canyon//SRAM) claimed the white jersey as best young rider after finishing 4th overall, just ahead Paula Blasi (UAE Team L'Imad). The rest of the standings: Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) secured the green jersey, the polka dot jersey was remained with Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Premier Tech) and the team classification went to UAE Team L'Imad.
Isabella Holmgren (Lidl-Trek) earned the most combative designation on the final stage with her solo attack at 46 km to go. Over the top of the 3rd climb (of 4), Holmgren had more than a minute of an advantage over the yellow jersey group, but then gradually lost time on the descent as Vollering’s teammate Juliette Berthet ( FDJ United-Suez) lead the chase behind, and as she went onto the final climb her lead had been cut to 30s.
Holmgren was ultimately caught with 4km to go on the final climb.
Holmgren finished 6th on the stage at 1:08 back and 8th overall in the final GC at 9:12 back. Also 3rd overall in the Young rider category.
