Hughes Wins Silver World Cup 'Cross, Birthday

Clara Hughes has followed up last week's gold medal in the 3000m event at the second round of the longtrack speedskating World Cup, with a silver medal in the 5000m event at the third round, held in Heerenveen, Netherlands. Hughes recorded a time of 7:04.35, behind Olympic champion Claudia Pechstein (Germany) with 7:02.91. Other Canadian results include Kristina Groves in 7th (7:15.83), Cindy Klassen 11th (7:18.29) and Tara Risling in 20th Currently, Hughes is second overall in the 3000m/5000m World Cup standings, with 290 points to Pechstein's 320. Klassen is third in the standings, with 199 points.
