Next Wednesday, May 18th, the Tour du Silence Gatineau 2022 will take place, a community and unifying event calling on all users for road and cycling safety, organized by Vélo-services.

Participating cyclists will be able to wear a black armband in memory of their brothers and sisters who have died or been injured due to road accidents. This is why the participants will ride in silence, at an average speed of 12km/h, while being accompanied by patrollers from Vélo-services and escorted by vehicles from the Gatineau Police Service.

Before departure, a brief commemorative ceremony to which dignitaries and spokespersons from cycling organizations are invited will take place.

The objective of this short bike ride is to make different road users aware of the importance of adopting responsible behaviour in terms of road safety. The Tour du Silence thus intends to remind cyclists in particular that they also have their share of responsibility in adopting safe and respectful behaviour, both on the road and on the cycling network.

Sharing roads and respecting all users are essential principles that are important to remember on a daily basis. The growing number of motorists requires cyclists to remain vigilant in order to minimize the risk and dream that one day, the number of accidents will be zero.

The Tour du Silence Gatineau will take place on May 18th at 5:30 pm, at Place la Cité. The Tour du Silence Gatineau 2022 is a cycling event not to be missed!

Vélo-services would like to thank all of the partners who make this event possible, including the City of Gatineau, the Fédération des sports cyclists du Québec, the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec, Action Vélo Outaouais, Vélo Plaisirs, as well as the Rackabecik coop. Vélo-services is particularly grateful for the support provided, year after year, by the police department of the city of Gatineau, during the outing.
