On the evening of February 25th at the Italian Club in Coppercliff, the Sudbury Cycling Club honoured our long time volunteer Dr. Eli Girolametto at an awards banquet. This was a surprise Event for Eli. Eli didn't know that his three sons would be in attendance, along with his wife Marlene.
Eli was the one of the founding members and also the volunteer treasurer of the Sudbury Cycling Club for over 30 years and retired last fall from this position. Eli is also a retired Dentist who is well respected in the dental community.

Time was taken to express grateful thanks to Eli on behalf of the Club, to remember that it is the volunteers that give of their time, behind the scenes, who really should be part of every victory the cyclists have. Without the volunteers there would not be the structure to allow for such successes.
Eli began his volunteerism with the club when his sons Paul and David were racing. Both Paul and David traveled from Southern Ontario to attend this event, and they took the opportunity to speak to everyone and thank their dad.
Chris Pritchard (Club President) organized the wording on Eli's congratulatory plaque. Eli was also presented with an original wool jersey of the Sudbury Cycling Club.
Marlene, Eli's wife, was also remembered as the one who supported Eli during all his volunteer effort. She was presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers given by Nicolina Muredda (Battista's wife).
A display of jersey's, a new Marinoni bike, photos and newspaper clippings dating back to the early 1970‚s was available for members old and new to view.
Special Guest Speaker was Bill Narasnek, the Canadian and Guinness Book of Records Trans Canada Timetrial record holder. The evening continued with Bill Narasnek's account of the Trans Canada Time trial PowerPoint photo presentation.
Other awards for the riders were presented by Frank Battaion
