Track started this morning. In the Men's 200m Doug Baron qualified 6th with a 10.7, Darryn Hill of Australia was fastest with a 10.25. Next was the Women, Lorri-Ann Meunzer set a new Commonwealth record of 11.624. Unfortunatly for Lori-Ann it would only last about 6 minutes. Tanya Dubnicoff and Michelle Ferris , both would better Lori-Ann's time. Tanya was fastest, 11.490, Michelle 11.597. A very promising start for our Sprinters.

Men's pursuit, fastest time was Brad McGee, Australia, 4:33.138. Paul Henderson (in his warm up for the Scratch) did a 4:55.07 to finish 10 th. Andrea Hannos had our best time for the Women"s 3000m, 3:54.86, good enough for 8th. Lyne Bessette was next in 9 th at 3:59.877, Annie Gariepy was 11th @ 4:03.128. Fastest ride in qualifying was 18 year old Alayna Burns (Aus), 3:40.389, 6 tenths faster than veteran Australian Lucy Tyler-Sharman. More after tonights scratch race.


New Brunswick Final Series Standings

Here is the info on the final standings in the Velo NB MTB series this year. It was a nine race series. The final standings are computed from each rider's best five results.

What a great race year it has been. The mountain bike series went superbly. Every one on the venues had made improvements from previous years. There were strong fields of riders in almost every category. The road series had some very successful events with compliments received for excellent event organization. There is every promise for increased participation in the road events next year.

We are now looking forward to Cyclefest 98 September 26 & 27 for fun and games as well as the opportunity to review this year's series activities, enjoy some autumn riding and plan for next year.

I am now off to join the festivities of the second day of Fredericton's annual week long Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival. A dozen veunues going at a time, both indoors and out. 16,000 visitors last year, bound to be more this year. Ah, September, great cycling, great music, some Picaroon's for those who wish. It doesn't get any better than this.

Velo NB Cyclefest 98 is coming up September 26 & 27, 1998 at Mactaquac Provincial Park, outside Fredericton. This two-day event centred around Saturday evening's annual general meeting, includes a 100 km road tour, a mountain bike race, a citizen's and parent's bike race, mountain bike group rides, banquet, breakfast and many other activities.
