FQSC Launches Anti-Doping Education Program

Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport congratulates the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes on the launch of an exciting anti-doping and values in sport awareness campaign.

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) was on hand to show support for a new anti-doping and values in sport educational campaign launched by the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC). The awareness program, “Roulez gagnants au naturel!” (Ride to Win/Ride Clean), encourages anti-doping attitudes and promotes the inherent positive values of sport that enrich people’s daily lives.

The CCES applauds FQSC’s proactive approach to educating younger athletes about the benefits of a positive sport experience while addressing the issue of anti-doping in the sport of cycling. “Sport contributes to our physical and moral development – the values we learn from sport can last us a lifetime,” commented Paul Melia, President and CEO of the CCES. “FQSC’s campaign carries the kind of message that can inspire its members and the community to embrace clean, fun, competitive sport, something we ultimately all benefit from.”

The CCES partners with many sport organizations, governments and communities to assist with the delivery of educational and awareness programs. As a partner of FQSC’s “Roulez gagnants au naturel!”, the CCES will provide materials and education seminars to several groups selected by the FQSC.

The CCES also commends FQSC on the selection of Mr. Pierre Harvey as the honorary president of this campaign. Mr. Harvey, a member of the CCES board of directors, has demonstrated throughout his career that it is possible for an athlete to combine competition, fairness, fun, dedication and excellence.

The CCES is an independent, national, non-profit organization. Our mission, to promote ethical conduct in all aspects of sport in Canada, is carried out through research, promotion, education, detection and deterrence, as well as through programs and partnerships with other organizations.


The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is proud to lend its support to the Fédération Québécoise des Sports Cyclistes (FQSC)'s "Roulez gagnants au naturel" campaign, with the shared aim of eradicating doping from sports, which is part of the CCA core values.

CCA President Dr. Pierre Blanchard, who, in addition to his professional medical activities is also an active Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) antidoping inspector, and UCI medical expert during the Tour de France 2002, 2003 and 2004, said: "To ride without drugs is part of the CCA values and we are riding alongside Québec's cycling federation in this major project aiming at heightening the younger generations awareness of the doping problem not only in cycling, but in all sports, a problem which truly needs to be taken seriously."

"What can we do to eradicate doping from sports? Our respective federations will take preventive actions and favour education rather than repression, and the FQSC campaign is perfectly following this line of conduct," added Pierre Blanchard.

Therefore, in light of two high-profile doping suspensions involving Canadian cyclists, the management, employees and coaches of the Canadian Cycling Association wish to reaffirm their commitment to eradicating drugs from sport, particularly cycling.
