Trek Anthem C Elite Helmet Recall
Trek Bicycle Corporation in cooperation with the US Consumers Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announces a voluntary recall of the Trek Anthem C Elite and Anthem C Elite WSD bicycle helmets in the US and Canada.
"The Consumers Union (CU), publishers of Consumer Reports Magazine, recently performed a bicycle helmet impact test of the CPSC guidelines for safety under severe impact. The CU brought to our attention that their tests showed our most popular helmet the Trek Vapor passed testing with flying colors, but indicated that our newly introduced Anthem C Elite helmet did not meet the CPSC guidelines," said Bob Burns, Trek General Counsel.
"We extensively test all of our helmets both internally and with independent test labs. All of our bicycle helmets have been certified by independent labs to meet both the CPSC standard and the CRITT international standard. But we put consumer safety above all else so until we can understand what happened in the CU testing, we felt the most prudent action was to conduct a voluntary recall on this model", continued Burns.
"The Anthem Carbon helmet is less than 1% of Trek's helmet business in the United States and since its introduction we have distributed approximately 1160 helmets in the United States," added John Balmer, Trek Senior Product Manager. "We were very surprised by the results of the CU's test, and we have no reports of any injuries. But it is not worth taking any chances when it comes to safety," Balmer continued.
All consumers who own an Anthem C Elite or Anthem C Elite WSD helmet should immediately stop using the helmet and return it to an Authorized Trek dealer to obtain a full refund.
