Now that summer is upon us, here is what's happening around the Forest City Velodrome.

Closure - Saturday July 1st the Velodrome will be closed for the long weekend - Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Racing - continues Saturday June 17th, 7pm at the track.
Featured races this week will be a Senior v Junior Keirin Tournament.
Masters will compete in a series of scratch races and the Velo-Kids will do a modified Keirin.
In the Keirin events our Derny will be used to pace the riders.

Announcing the NEW Recreational Rider Time Trial Series.
Come out on Thursday nights (during the T4 session) to be timed over your favorite solo Time Trial distances - Standing Start & Flying Lap, 500m, 1000m, 2000m, 3000m.
Records will be kept on the website so that you can race against yourself or create friendly competition between you and your track buddies.
All events will be timed solo events. Coaching in correct technique and training methods will be available!
If you've always wanted to know how your speed compares with our best racers, this series is for you.
Coaching seminars will be organized and run by our better racers.
We need a record keeping volunteer and a program overseer!

FCV Video
Bob Schelstraete is producing a DVD of the last 6-Day of the 2006 spring season. I've previewed a copy and it's great.
Keep one for yourself for posterity and mail a few off to your friends and relatives.
Probable cost - $10 to track funds and to offset small production expenses.
Cameraman was Bob's son-in-law Brian Demaree.
Editor was Bob's daughter Lynn Cristino.
For availability e-mail Bob - schelstraete@rogers.com

Newspaper coverage
Wednesday's "Londoner" community newspaper featured the FCV.
There should be some copies arriving at the track to pass out at the Saturday night races.
To show our appreciation how about sending an email short "thank you" for the velodrome article to sports editor Sean Meyer smeyer@thelondoner.ca
and his boss Peter McLeod pmcleod@thelondoner.ca
Here is the link to the article www.thelondoner.ca

Daytime Volunteers needed! Contact rg.

Open House June 3rd. This open house and BBQ was a great success with about 40 new people taking the open house tour. Ned's BBQing raised about $250 for general funds and I'm sure all those figures would have been much higher if it wasn't for a thunderstorm, torrential rain and hail.
But we have a ROOF so riding wasn't affected. Let's hear yayyy for the roof!
Many thanks to the volunteers who showed up to help.
About a dozen speedskaters from London-Ottawa learned how to ride the track that day. They came back on the next day, Sunday, to take a special Track2/3 combo session from Mike T. to round out their weekend.

Recruit - Recruit - Recruit
We're thinking ahead to the fall (just like Sears) and to the expand programs we need more session leaders.
Volunteer today - e-mail rg or mt and put your name on the fall volunteer list.

Jerseys - the latest word is late June, early July for delivery.

Trackfact
Most of us are acutely aware of this fact but for those who aren't - the Forest City Velodrome is one of two indoor velodromes in Canada and one of three in all of N.America.
That's right, the mighty USA has only one. Mind you it's the mega-dollar ADT Center complex in Carson CA. www.homedepotcenter.com
The other Canadian one is in Burnaby BC www.burnabyvelodrome.ca
There are about twenty outdoor ones in the USA and about 5 in Canada but no roof = no riding for about eight months of the year.
