Buckwallow Cycling Centre Plays Host To The Plastiglas Ontario Cup Mountain Bike Event!

The Plastiglas Ontario Cup #4 will kick off this Sunday July 9th at Buckwallow, just south of Bracebridge off of Highway #11. This weekend's race is expected to attract over 600 riders up to the Muskokas to ride the Canadian Shield Rock that makes The Buckwallow Cycling Centre famous.

The course distances ranges from 7 km to 48 km depending on the rider's age and ability level. The Pro/Elite riders will be racing at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the amateur events beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The Plastiglas Ontario Cup Series consists of 7 events taking place at premier mountain bike venues all across Ontario. The events have categories for mountain bikers of all ability levels and are selection events for the Ontario Team competing at the Canadian National Championships. Registration is available on site.

Pre - Ride: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Sunday July 9th
X-Country racing
9:00 am - 3:00 p.m.
Pro race starts at 1:00 p.m.

Cycle Solutions Ontario Cup DH #3 Camp Fortune

Well what more could you ask for at Canada's Largest DH and 4X series, 27 degrees, sun and clouds and a former National Championship course. The roots and rocks were out in force to make sure those used to tamer southern Ontario courses finally knew what body armour was for. This course has been prepped, bermed and manicured into one of the finest DH race courses in Canada and it showed, as this event turned into the largest turnout for a DH race at Camp Fortune since the 2000 Canadian Nationals.

In the Juniors it was all about the locals, these guys live right around the corner and had a home field advantage on their favourite course with Lee Boeyen being the first to smash the 3 minute barrier, followed by Willy Cadham and Alex Conlon.

In the Elite womens field it was Gravitesse rider Genevieve Gagnon who cruised to 1st with a 10 second lead over Sheila Morris and Celina Moore..

But when it came down to the elite men it was going to be a tough race with many of Canada's top elite racers attending, in the end it was Sweet Pete/Devinci's Peter McClean who broke the 2:50 mark with a blazing 2:48. Next was Norco Factory rider Derek Cowell only 1 second behind and Team Devinci Daredevil rider Dominick Menard in 3rd.
