Ottawa Team Supports MS Fight

Serono-Cyclelogik Racing is pleased to announce that the local cycling team will be participating in this year's Rona MS tours in both Ottawa and Toronto.

"We receive a lot of support from the community and were looking for a way to return that support. The Multiple Sclerosis Society has long been affiliated with cycling through the Tour and our athletes, both male and female ranging in age from 17 to 50 years old, really represent the age group when most people are diagnosed with the disease. It's a worthy cause, and a natural fit." said team manager, David Gazsi.

The Serono-Cyclelogik Racing Team is a provincial trade team based in Ottawa that aims to develop and deliver a complete competitive cycling program, through racing, race organization, rider development, and community involvement.

The team's two title sponsors are both proud to be working together to support finding a cure for MS. Well-known local cycling store, Cyclelogik, has been a long-standing supporter of the Ottawa tour.

"The MS Tour in Ottawa has always been a key focus or our community support. We're very pleased to have not only the store participating this year but also, through our team's new relationship with Serono, to have the team giving its support to the Tour," said Ian Fraser, owner of Cyclelogik.

As the manufacturer of Rebif, the leading treatment for relapsing MS in Canada, Serono is committing considerable research efforts to find even more effective treatments for MS, and, through biotechnology, bring greater hope to people suffering from this debilitating disease.

This year's Ottawa-Kemptville tour takes place August 12-13 and has a fundraising goal of $375,000. The Toronto tour is a one-day event, taking place September 10th and has a fundraising goal of $175,000. Tours are scheduled throughout Ontario and the rest of the country. Right To Play International is pleased to announce the beginning of the next round of recruitment for International Volunteers! We will be recruiting August through December 2006 in preparation for Volunteer Training in Toronto, Canada in January 2007. Approximately 60 volunteers are needed for Right To Play projects in countries in Africa and Asia. Field placements will commence between February and May 2007.

Projects: Right To Play SportWorks and SportHealth

Countries: Right To Play is recruiting international volunteers for placements in the following countries: Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, Sudan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Mali, Liberia, Chad, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka.

Key Responsibilities:
* Project Administration
* Adult Education and Workshop Facilitation
* Communication
* Networking and Partnership Building
* Project Coordination
* Monitoring and Evaluation

Successful volunteer candidates:
* believe in the power of sport and play to foster development, health and peace
* have a balance of skills in coaching, adult education, child and community development, project implementation and working in an international context
* are able to live and work effectively as a team and are available for a twelve-month contract.

Through a minimum one-year placement in Asia or Africa, International Volunteers gain skills and experience in the following:
* Training in Right To Play programs and modules
* Project implementation techniques and project management skills
* Cross-cultural communication and conflict resolution
* Community capacity building through adult education
* Project monitoring, evaluation and reporting

Flights to and from training and the field, insurance, medical and accommodation expenses are covered for International Volunteers, and an honorarium to cover basic living expenses is provided. All international volunteers must be available to attend a mandatory 10 day training session in Toronto, Canada in January 2007.
