Former world champion Gord Singleton was unsuccessful in his attempt to break the existing lap record at the Forest City Velodrome last night. Singleton showed his bike handling ability by avoiding a crash when his bike experienced mechanical problems just as he reached full speed going into the steeply banked first turn.

Other records did fall though as Joe Veloce broke the kilo record with a time of 1:10:20 and nine other competiters produced personal best times in the flying lap series.

Jamie Shankland won his second straight 16 rider sprint knockout series by defeating Dave St James in a photo finish
