Seven Wins in Four Races – Québéc’s Caylon-Litespeed Storms the Late Season

After a long period spend in the USA participating in the NRC circuit (National Race Circuit), including the Tour de Altoona, the Philadelphia Triple Crown and Super Week, Québec-based UCI Continental team Caylon-Litespeed has seen its profile rise substantially with a spectacular medal haul. With seven podiums in four races, Caylon-Litespeed can already consider its inaugural season a success – and the season isn’t over yet.

At the recent Nocturne de Saint-Bruno August 19, Jean-Sébastien Perron and Erik Lyman took the second and third steps of the podium. The 40 K criterium in the small skiing town hosted its ninth annual race which starts riders at dusk. However the race held other surprises for riders, as a torrential downpour greeted riders mid-race; as a result, Perron and Lyman had to rely on experience and audacity to secure their wins.

In the highly media covered Mardis Cyclistes de Lachine - Saputo series, Calyon-Litespeed won four places on the podium during the last two stages; two Silver Medal finishes for Charly Vives; as well as a Bronze medal each for Jean-Sébastien Perron and Maxime Vives.

For his part, ‘Old hand’ Calyon-Litespeed Capitaine de Route Erik Lyman won third in North America’s longest road race, the 250 K Montréal-Québec which took place August 13. Thanks to the collective work of the entire team, Lyman was able to bring attention to the expertise of the young team with his finish, in addition to being the highest placing Québécois in the 2006 edition of the historic race.

What makes the recent ‘medal haul’ all the more interesting is the fact that most team members are classed in the Pro-Espoir (Under 23) category – proving that Caylon-Litespeed has a bright future in riders Joël Dion-Poitras, Jean-Sébastien Perron, brothers Maxime and Charly Vives, Carl Desroches, and Erik Lyman.

Caylon-Litespeed is now preparing for the upcoming Québec road Championships, set for August 26-27 in Beauce, Québec, after which they will return to the USA to take part in their final event of the season, the Grand-Prix Univest in Pennsylvania.
