Courtesy Marco Li
On October 1st, Racer Sportif will organize a ride in the Halton region in order to raise awareness for drivers to share the roads with cyclists, in memory of Greg Stobbart.
The Cause: The objective of the ride is to heighten awareness about the need for drivers and cyclists to share the road safely, and the importance of creating safer roads for cyclists
The Riders: The ride will be led be Racer Sportif and its club members. We will have upwards of 500 avid and passionate cyclists from all over the province.
The Route: The riders will cruise along a beautiful 60 km route out in the Halton region and will stop at the site of Greg's accident on Termaine Rd.
Your Contribution: all proceeds will go to the "Share the Road" campaign. Created in Greg's memory, "Share the Road" is an advocacy initiative dedicated to:
*providing increased access for cyclists, and improving safety for cyclists
*increasing driver safety, education and awareness
*increasing awareness about the value and importance of cycling for healthy lifestyles and communities
Specific initiatives under consideration include:
*improving safety for cyclists in the form of designated lanes and wider paved shoulders
*increased signage and enhanced awareness campaigns targeted at drivers
