Calgary Trail Advocacy Open House

Fish Creek Provincial Park is in the process of developing an undesignated trails policy and many of our favorite Fish Creek trails are destined for closure. We fear that the Fish Creek example may be adopted by other administrations (civic, provincial, federal) in justifying future trail closures elsewhere.
The Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance feels that the process for determining which Fish Creek trails are to be closed is flawed. It is already evident that under the Fish Creek proposals, some trails that SHOULD be closed will remain open, and some trails that should remain open will be closed.
The Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance believes that there are many alternatives that should be considered prior to trail closures.
We need ALL CYCLISTS to attend the Fish Creek Open Houses on:
Thursday, November 19, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
And
Saturday November 21 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Bow Valley Ranch in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
More information can be obtained form our website http://members.home.net/cmba or you can call the CMBA Hotline at 403-220-1868. E-mail cmba1@hotmail.com
YOUR right to ride depends on YOUR involvement in this initiative. We need significant numbers to turn out for these Open Houses to demonstrate that we are a diverse demographic group that is willing to work cooperatively with Park Management. See you there!

`Cross Volunteers Needed
The organizer of the Cyclo-cross Nationals has put in a plea for volunteers. This is your chance to work hard, stand out in the cold and get screamed at by hyper athletes! Help put back something into your sport; he says that he will even feed you. Contact the organizer at (905) 271-8300 or email peter.mac@sympatico.ca
By the way, a reminder: only 2 more days to pre-register and save $5. Go to the `Cross website for more details (click on the icon in the upper right hand corner).
Tour of the Rockies
It looks like the Tour of the Rockies is attempting to move its dates to avoid conflicting with the Canadian Mountain Bike Nationals. No final word yet on when the new date will be, be possible choices are June (conflicting with Mont Ste Anne World Cup DH), or late July (just before or after Pan Ams mountain bike event). Another interesting point of interest from the United States is that Norba (the U.S. offroad sanctioning body) is taking a completely opposite approach to their national series (NCS) than Canada (Canada Cup). While the CCA is setting up an Events Department to oversee their properties (Canada Cup series, National Championships), and is sub-contracting to organizers on an event-by-event basis, Norba has announced that they will be looking to contract out the entire series to someone who will run the events and handle marketing and PR. So who is making the right decision? Post your comments on the Forums.
