This weekend the Symmetrics Pro Cycling team will take "leg power" to a whole new level! The S-Team is proud to be involved with the "Power Smart" Live Powered Billboard charity program this weekend, a program spearheaded to raise money for the Canadian Association of Food Banks.
In line with the holiday season of giving, Symmetrics riders will "give" their legs to help power a special holiday billboard using human energy to light 1,500 LED lights. All of the team's BC-based riders and staff will be involved with the event, riding this Friday and Saturday, November 24/25, for 24 hours. The event is part of BC Hydro's initiative of conserving energy by switching to LED lights. This billboard demonstrates the minimal amount of energy required to power holiday LED lights. For every hour the billboard is lit, a donation will be made to the BC Chapter of the Canadian Association of Food Banks. "The team is always looking for new ways to increase our involvement with the community," Mark Cunningham, team co-owner said. "This idea struck us as a great way to use our skills to provide exposure for this initiative. Looking for alternative sources of energy is always a goal of our team-we firmly believe in the value of the bike as a healthy alternative to the car. So using leg power to power this billboard was a no-brainer. "
The billboard will glow for five days, 24 hours per day, from Wednesday, November 22 through Monday, November 27.
For each hour the billboard is illuminated, BC Hydro will donate money to the Food Bank. The Symmetrics Pro Cycling Team will drive the show this Friday/Saturday, at Impark Lot 97 (827 Richards Street) from 4pm on Friday to 4pm on Saturday. ÂÂ
Symmetrics Cycling is offering an open invitation to all supporters and fans of the team to come down and join in on the fun. If you are interested in volunteering your time and your leg power to this worthy cause email Symmetrics Cycling at: ride@symmetricscycling. com All volunteers will receive a free Symmetrics water bottle and poster.
