Starting January 2nd and running through January 7th, some of the best riders in North America will be competing daily at the Burnaby Velodrome in the second annual Burnaby Velodrome Six Day.
Every night, the feature race will be the Madison. After a mass start where all riders are on the track, only one rider from each two-man team is allowed in the race at a given time. Riders must exchange with their partners to have a rider in the race think of it as Tag Team Racing! Exchanges are quite dangerous, but impressive to watch when done well - one rider circles around waiting for his team mate, who joins hands and imparts his momentum to the slower rider.
To round off each night, there will be mixture of other races: Scratch Races, Points Races, Sprint Races and some crowd pleasing Australian Pursuit racing!
Already confirmed in the elite category are:
Symmetrics professionals and National Champions Svein Tuft, Cam Evans, Christian Meier, Zach Bell, and Marsh Cooper.
US National U23 Individual Pursuit Champion Dan Harm.
National Champion sprinters Matt Barlee, Matt Chater, and Keith Bruneau.
In addition to A & B races every night and all day Saturday and Sunday, each day has something different in store:
Thursday and Saturday will feature Juniors racing.
Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday will host C races.
Friday Night will be New Racer night.
And Saturday evening will feature a Battle of the Couriers!!
A Bike Swap Meet will take place Saturday morning, 10am to 2pm. A great place to find parts for your winter bike, your race bike, or maybe some extra warm clothing now that the winter is here!
A beer garden and a DJ sound system are on tap for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, along with some great food provided by local restaurants!
Spaces are limited, so register early to guarantee your spot in this event! Billeting is available for out of town racers.
