Tour de PEI Officially Launched
Cycling event promoter Mr. Daniel Manibal is proud to present a new UCI womens' cycling race to be held on Prince Edward Island.
The Tour de PEI will be held from 10th to June 14th 2007, after the Quebec races organized by Daniel Manibal and his team, the Montreal Women's cycling World Cup and the Tour du Grand Montreal. Most of the teams who subscribe for the Montreal events are racing the Tour de PEI.
The Tour is a 5 stage race that includes a time trial on the Confederation Bridge. At 12.9 kilometres, it is the longest bridge over ice covered waters in the world. The Bridge joins the provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick and is part of the Trans Canada highway.
The Confederation Bridge and his General Manager Michel Le Chasseur are partners of the plan. Their technical, financial and moral support guarantee the Tour for a 3 year presentation.
As for Mr. Le Chasseur, he is delighted to see an international event taking place in Prince-Edward Island. "What better way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the bridge than by hosting a world class event!"
The governments of Prince Edward Island and Canada are also partners in this undertaking. We thank the cities of Charlottetown and Summerside who enthusiastically accepted to present a stage of the Tour de PEI in their respective cities.
Calendar of events
June 10: Circuit, Summerside
June 11: Time trial, Confederation Bridge
June 12: Road race, from Cavendish national park to the western region
June 13: Road race, from Cavendish national park to Charlottetown (Eastern region)

The Grand Finale of the event will be a pop concert that will take place at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. Furthermore, popular events (amateurs races, youth challenges, etc.) will take place prior to some of the stages.
This international Tour is part of a development plan for Mr. Manibal and his team. According to Jacinthe Lemire, project director, other events could be added to the organization's actual portfolio.
