Midnight Mass Bike Ride

Christmas has come and gone, and we're all no doubt in need of some soul strengthening bikery! It's time to shake off some of that turkey induced lethargy, family induced stress, and holiday baking induced spare tire action, and get a ridin' again.

Tonight, the day before Critical Mass, is the next midnight mass bike ride -- a perfect chance to get out and see some of your friends and get back in the groove. The forecast is for a clear and crisp night, so bundle up and bring somethin' hot to drink.

As usual, we meet 11:45 pm at Grandview Park (Commercial Drive at Charles Street -- across from the Havana and Turks) and roll at midnight to parts unknown. Join us for the post Christmas/pre-New Years festivities!

Solstice Critical Mass Ride and Roll

Join fellow bicyclists, skaters, and bladers for a leisurely and spirited ride and roll through the streets of Vancouver celebrating Winter Solstice and the last ride of 2006!

Meet at the Vancouver Art Gallery on the Georgia Street side between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m., and roll and ride at 6:00 p.m. The ride is on rain, shine, or snow! Illuminated and decorated bicycles, trailers, costumes, signs, flags, noisemakers, gettoblasters and sound systems, drums, and wildly modified bicycles are all highly encouraged. After the ride is a Velofusion party starting 8:00 p.m. at the ANZA Club, 3 West 8th at the Ontario Bike Route.

Pre-rides to Critical Mass:

UBC riders meet at the UBC Bike Hub, on the north east end of the Student Union Building, at 4:30 p.m. for a group ride to the Vancouver Art Gallery. Phone 604-822-BIKE for details.

East Van riders meet 4:00 p.m., leaving 4:30 p.m., from Grandview Park, 1200-block Commercial Drive, for a group ride to the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Celebrated around the world, Critical Mass is a grassroots reclamation of public space -- on the last Friday of the month -- which allows cyclists and other self-propelled people to move safely and comfortably through city streets in a car-free space. Non-polluting forms of transportation are promoted.

Velofusion Party

The Velofusion Critical Mass afterparty is going to be hot hot HOT -- so brave the cold with cause and clever constructions all! CR Avery hot off his European tour will be at the ANZA for you all after Critical Mass. Plus DJ's, pizza, movies, performances and dancing!

Nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds.

This is the December meeting rescheduled. If you ride your bike in Vancouver or UBC, come meet and work with other cyclists to help improve cycling facilities. Your active participation can make a real difference. Lend your voice and your support and get involved.

Basic Bike Repair Workshop

Offered by PEDAL (Pedal Energy Development Alternatives), an organization that develops and promotes the use of pedal powered technology, on the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm. The course covers drivetrain maintenance, brake and gear adjustment and flat tire repair. Courses are held at Our Community Bikes, 3283 Main Street near 17th Avenue.

Cost is $40 plus tax. Bring your bike and a snack.
