Wedge in Europe
With no fanfare, national cyclo-cross champion Peter Wedge has headed over to Europe one week prior to the `Cross World Championships. How do we know? Well, buried in the start list of yesterday's Superprestige race (in Wetzikon, Switzerland) was Peter's name. He was not listed among the 33 finishers in the race won by Sven Nijs (Adri Van der Poel was 2nd, and Mario de Clercq 3rd). However, according to the CCA, Peter has not requested entry to the World's (Ray Duggan is the only Canadian competitor at this time). It appears he is just 'testing the waters' at this time.
Sheppard Signs
We received the following e-mail from mountain biker Chris Sheppard over the weekend.
Just thought I would drop you a line announcing my signing with Catera for the 1999 season. I will be competing in all the World Cups, NORBA Nationals, International stage races, and two to three stops on the Canada Cup series (chasing UCI Points). Road racing will play a key role in the season with Redlands, Willamet, and Circuit des Mines (in France) wedged in between my mountain bike races.
Team Catera will be riding on Klein bicycles, Rock Shox, Shimano, Mavic, Tioga, Profile, Briko, and some others that are in the process of being signed. Champion Nutrition will look after the nutritional duties for the team. The team remains the same, rider wise, with Carl Swenson, Golden Brainard, and Gretchen Reeves. Dave Tole has moved from Shimano to take over the mechanical duties for the team while Charles Aaron and Matt Kelly (of Cycle Sport International) are General Manager and road manager respectively. Hope to talk to you soon, and wish us luck!
Cheers,
Chris Sheppard
