Cyclists Needed for an Exercise Study
Currently, we are recruiting male subjects (aged 18-35) who cycle either recreationally or competitively for an exercise study in the department of Kinesiology at McMaster.
This exercise study has been formulated to determine whether there are any potential skeletal muscle benefits to ingesting (drinking) a carbohydrate PLUS protein beverage during a cycling exercise.
This study will consist of 3 trials where subjects will ingest either:
1) Carbohydrate drink
2) Carbohydrate plus protein drink or
3) Placebo
Each trial will consist of:
90 minute steady-state cycling ride at 65% of the subjects VO2 max
20 km simulated time-trial on a computrainer (subjects will be asked to bring in their own bike to use)
Blood measurements
Urine measurements
Muscle biopsies
A $250 honorarium will be given for participation in the study.
