Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast Team Announces Roster for U.S. Open
Fresh from taking a top ten overall place in the Redlands Bicycle Classic, CA., the first-year Kelly Benefits Strategies/Medifast team announced today the final roster for the U.S. Open Cycling Championships this Saturday (April 7th) in Richmond, Virginia.
Riders set to race the NBC-televised, UCI 112-mile professional men's race include Dan Bowman, who finished seventh overall in the Redlands Bicycle Classic; Dominique Perras, a member of the Canadian national team since 1992 and 3rd place finisher in the 2006 Canadian National Road Race Championships; fellow Canadian Martin Gilbert, who finished three times in the top ten of the USA Crit Series and should be well placed for Richmond's eight lap course finish; plus a lineup that includes time trial performer and former national collegiate TT gold medalist Reid Mumford, Jonny Sundt, Justin Spinelli and rising talent Nick Waite and Ryan Roth.
"This is a big race for us," says Jonas Carney, performance director. "It's a great, tough field to test our roster. With the TV coverage this race attracts, it's also a fantastic opportunity to show race fans all over the country at home exactly what a well-managed, first year team riding hard for the finish line can do.
"We're confident in our cross-skill lineup, racing guys who have strong abilities in road, time trials, criteriums and who just know how to be in, or get to, the right place when it goes down."
Fans of pro-cycling unable to attend the event can watch the race unfold live on NBC, 2.30-5.00pm this Saturday April 7, 2007 (Note: U.S. viewers only).
