Team Canada Finishes Third at the first UCI Track Event of the year. Los 6 Dias De Mexico
Team Canada, made up of Martin Gilbert and Ryan McKenzie, have finished third on the final day the UCI 6 day race in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Over the last two days the duo raced hard to try and capture the win after moving into second place ahead of Chile and just points behind Spain on day four.
Day five featured two Madisons. Gilbert and Mckenzie were very aggressive trying to take a lap on the field. The two made many good breaks but the chemistry was not there to get away. Finally they got away alone with only 16 laps remaining. The chase continued hard and in the end there was not enough race left to make up the last quarter lap on the field.
Team Canada came into day six with the goal of taking one more lap on the other teams to try and win the overall classification. Fast races and tired legs allowed no teams to grab more than points. Gilbert and Mckenzie were able capitalize winning one of the two Madisons over a focused Chilean squad.
In the end it came down to points. Both Chile and Spain were able to attain the 200 point mark hence placing them an extra lap up on team Canada who were just out of reach.
