Cactus Cup, Arizona
Here is a report from Canadian pro Chris Sheppard (Catera).
Hello all and welcome to the first race/life update of the season! After a tenacious training race in Redlands most riders headed for a three day battle of the dirt known as the Cactus Cup. The first stage was the time trial and many a racer were unsure of their form at the start. I had the dubious task of repeating my victory from the previous year, so my nerves were about me. Having no problems with nerves was Seamus "white rasta" McGrath who proceeded to pummel the field by 28 seconds. Following white rasta was American jibber Greg Randolph, canuck Dr. Dre Hestler was third, Italian pasta connection Dario Cioni was fourth and I ended up fifth. Seamus' victory marked the fourth Canadian win in the opening time trial over the past five years....not too bad. Saturday we compete in the road crit, and Sunday the cross country takes place. Look for another update tomorrow!
Chris
