Canada to Get Three Spots for Men's RR at Worlds
The UCI has released the Nation Standings as of August 15th for Elite Men's Road, and Canada ranks fourth in the Americas continental standings, giving three start spots for the Men's road race at the Worlds in Stuttgart, Germany next month. Canada will receive five start spots for the Espoir Men's road race.
While the CCA has not announced the team yet, it is likely that Symmetrics riders Cam Evans (national champion) and Svein Tuft will take two places. National champion Ryder Hesjedal (Nealth Net - Maxxis) will take one of the time trial spots (and Tuft likely the other), but Hesjedal has been told by the High Performance Committee that he will not be on the road race squad (he missed the Nationals road race due to team commitments).
For the Espoir road race, National road champion Christian Meier (Symmetrics) will take one and time trial champion David Veilleux (Jittery Joe's) the other - these two will do the ITT as well. The CCA is sending a team to the Tour de l'Avenir before the Worlds, so will keep a team over in Europe to field a full five riders for the road race.
