Job Description: Manager, Communications
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is expanding its communications department, and as a result, is seeking a results-oriented, experienced Manager, Communications for its Toronto office. Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Manager, Communications will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Communications department and staff, and will be responsible for the delivery of the COC's corporate and Games communications plans as well as the communications component of the COC website plan. The Manager will support the Director in the leadership and growth of the COC team in support of its business objectives.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Management of Communications Department - manage communications staff such as writers, media relations coordinators, and administrative support staff. Manage the COC website from a communications standpoint (working with IT); manage the creation and production of communications materials (newsletters, team handbooks, annual reports, etc.); manage delivery of stakeholder communications plans; and manage the delivery of media and public relations plans.
2. COC Communications Plan - manage the delivery of the COC communications plan, which covers all aspects of COC communications including Corporate Communications, Media Relations, and Awards and Recognition. Separate plans will be created for upcoming Games in collaboration with the Director.
3. Website Plan: manage the communications component of the COC website plan. This plan will cover all aspects of the COC website including content, design, updates, Games, youth programs and sponsor profiles.
Qualifications and Skills
Degree in communications, journalism or a related field
5-7 years' experience in a range of communications areas
Bilingual in French and English, spoken and written
Proven track record of leadership, staff management and team supervision
Strong management, organizational, presentation, coaching and relationship-building skills
Superior verbal and written communications skills, experience in media and public relations
Balance of vision and attention to detail
Understanding of budget planning
