Winterborne Bicycle Institute Announces New Courses

Winterborne Bicycle Institute (WBI) is celebrating a successful first year, after delivering two over-subscribed bicycle mechanics courses to bike shop owners and mechanics, plus a third and smaller course in the Spring for home mechanics. WBI presented certificates to 22 students who successfully completed the intensive 11 day hands-on course.

WBI is an off-campus training partner of Conestoga College, Ontario's most successful community college. In feedback through the College, students gave WBI high marks for course content, hands-on approach, fully-tooled workbenches and a diverse array of bench bikes available to work on. Through dialogue with students, many course modifications and improvements have been incorporated, including a hands-on suspension overhaul unit, wheel building guide, suspension overhaul guide and an extensive set of technical homework assignments.

Jason Filer, a WBI partner and instructor, said, "We were fortunate to have three classes of enthusiastic students and great support from the bike industry. We met our business plan goals, and our course gets better every time."

Alan Medcalf, also a WBI partner and instructor, added that, "In the end it's all about getting more people on bikes more often and we feel that we've found a way to help the bike industry in doing that."

WBI is also proud to announce accreditation from Shimano Canada. Jason said this means, "Students can be sure they're gaining the most current information and techniques for Shimano components and technology."

The course dates for the 2007/2008 season are as follows:

• September 24 to October 5, 2007
• October 29 to November 9, 2007
• December 3 to December 14, 2007
• January 21 to February 1, 2008
• April 14 to April 25, 2008

Registration for all course dates is now open through Conestoga College's website at Look for Continuing Education course code MECH1230.

WBI will also be participating at ExpoCycle for the first time, in Montreal, Sept 9-11. Take the opportunity to drop by and meet Alan and Jay, and learn about WBI.
