Canadian Olympic Committee Invites Applications to the 2008 Olympic Academy of Canada

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is inviting applications from across Canada for the 20th session of the Olympic Academy of Canada (OAC) to be held in Vancouver, June 21-27, 2008.

The OAC is a leadership development program that provides current and future sport and community leaders with exceptional opportunities to learn about and discuss the achievements, issues and current status of the Olympic Movement.

The theme of the 2008 OAC will be "Making a Difference". Delegates will hear from a variety of speakers, both within and outside the sport community, including Olympians, about how sport and Olympism has made a difference in their lives. A sampling of the speakers and guests from the 2006 OAC in Montreal includes: COC Chief Executive Officer Chris Rudge, CBC Host Scott Russell, World Anti-Doping Agency Chairman for Canada Dick Pound, Olympians Nicolas Gill, Mathieu Turcotte, Jennifer Heil, Manon Jutras and Ann Dow, as well as Paralympians Chantal Petitclerc and Patrick Jarvis.

Applications to attend this program are invited from individuals 18 years of age and older. This includes professional and volunteer sport administrators, athletes, coaches, officials, corporate representatives, teachers, university students, journalists and individuals who have a specific interest in sport and the Olympic Movement.
