Vinokourov Suspended and Retires
Alexander Vinokourov was handed a one year suspension by the Kazakh cycling federation (which hinted that the timing waqs so that he would still able to race in Beijing), however the rider then issued a statement indicating that he was going to retire.
Vinokourov tested positive for a homologous blood transfusion during last year's Tour, after an electrifying comeback performance similar to Floyd Landis'.
The UCI had stated that it would appeal the short sentence, and it was at this point that the Kazakh rider said he would retire. He also has stated through his lawyer - Maurice Suh, who is defending Floyd Landis - that he maintains his innocence and will continue to fight the charges.
