Sneak Peak at the 2008 ABA Schedule
Courtesy Scott Kelly, Sport Coordinator (Road/Track/Cyclocross)
Spring is drawing closer and for many; training is full swing. In order to keep the motivation high the ABA is releasing a sneak peak of the 2008 schedule. Although there are some races to be confirmed it provides all cyclists with an exciting 2008 schedule.
For 2008, all of the classic events are back, GP Bici, Velocity Stage Race, Bow 80 and the Jim Horner UCI Cyclocross to name a few. What should excite everyone is the increased size and quality of the Calendar in every discipline. Mountain Biking is returning to Alberta in a big way with events in Hinton, Nordegg, and Terwilliger Park. BMX racing is getting underway early this year with the first provincial race at the Morley Indoor Track on February 17th. The road racing schedule is highlighted by the new "Calgary Bike Week". This week long event includes a bigger Tour de Bowness, The Ride for the Wild Roses Crit, ITT Provincials, even an Alberta BMX Cup race. Alberta sent 4 athletes to Cyclocross Worlds this year and the Cylcocross schedule for 2008 reflects the popularity of this sport in Alberta.
The 2008 calendar can be found at www.albertabicycle.ab.ca; with finalized dates expected by the end of February. It will also be available in the 2008 ABA member handbook.
