New Board Members at National Cycling Centre Hamilton

The National Cycling Centre Hamilton (NCCH) is pleased to announce the appointment of several new members to its Board of Directors. Recently appointed are Dan Donovan, Lloyd Fairbairn, Lorraine Lafrenière, Glenn Meeuwisse, and Russ Powers. The continuing members of the Board are Andrew Iler (President), Rob Jones and Thérèse Quigley.

Dan Donovan is the Publisher of Ottawa Life magazine and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. Dan has held senior positions in government and in business.

Lloyd Fairbairn is a Training Simulation Supervisor at NAV Canada. Lloyd has extensive experience with cycling, having been a development and high performance coach, team founder and manager, and a competitor.

Lorraine Lafrenière, is the Canadian Cycling Association's representative to the Board. Lorraine is the Chief Executive Officer/Secretary General of the Canadian Cycling Association and former COO of the Coaching Association of Canada.

Glenn Meeuwisse is the Vice President of High Performance at the Ontario Cycling Association and is the OCA's representative to the Board. Glenn has international experience as a competitor in triathlon, representing Canada at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and he is a certified cycling coach.

Russ Powers is the Hamilton City Councillor from Dundas and was the Member of Parliament, representing the federal riding of Ancaster - Dundas - Flamborough - Westdale in the 38th Parliament. Russ is the City of Hamilton's representative to the Board.

About the NCCH

The NCCH is one of five National Cycling Centres in Canada - the other centres being in Victoria, Calgary, Bromont, and Dieppe. The NCCH is located at McMaster University. Over the past 5 years, the Centre has assisted 15 athletes reach the podium at National Championships or be selected by the National Cycling Team.

The NCCH is formally partnered with the Canadian Cycling Association, the Ontario Cycling Association, the City of Hamilton, and McMaster University.

As the regional high performance and development centre in Ontario, the National Cycling Centre Hamilton is a Centre for all of Ontario's athletes and coaches. The NCCH will work with Ontario's coaches and athletes in order to best develop talent and to help prepare coaches and athletes for success at the local, provincial, national and international levels.

Over the past several months, the NCCH has developed a further partnership with the Hamilton District School Board in order to initiate a pilot Identification and Recruitment program to bring new athletes into the sport and to help develop those athletes into the next generation of champions.
