Rollin Joins High Road
Team Toyota United has released Dominique Rollin to join the ProTour team of High Road for the rest of the season, effective April 1 (today). Rollin, who won the epic fourth stage of the Amgen Tour of California in February in a solo breakaway, immediately caught the eye of team captain George Hincapie, who finished second to the Quebec rider in the stage, despite chasing for 20 kilometres in the pouring rain.
Almost everyone expected that Rollin was destined for greater things after his win at AToC, plus a stage win at the Tour of Missouri last year, however, it was a surprise that the move came this year.
"Dominique certainly caught our attention," said team owner Bob Stapleton "and we decided not to wait until next season. He is a true Classics riders, and we wanted to have him riding for us as soon as possible."
The agreement included a cash payment to Toyota United, to release Rollin. The 25 year old is expected to make his debut with High Road later this month at Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
"For sure, it is very exciting," agreed Rollin, who competed this past weekend for Toyota United at the Avril Dummkopf stage race. "It was a surprise that it happened so fast, but I am very greatful for the opportunity that Toyota United provided me, and I wish them success."
