Minneapolis Mafia to Host 2000 Single-Speed World Championships

The organized single-speeders of Minneapolis-St.Paul and promoters of the Minneapolis Metro Frothy Mug Single-Speed Series are proud to announce ourselves as hosts of the Official 2000 Single-Speed World Championships.

In a location-deciding, last-man-standing derby showdown that never happened, Minneapolis single-speeders emerged victorious by default, as supposed one-speed hardcores from NorCal and elsewhere were unwilling and unable to withstand our physical and psychological challenge thrown down at this year's Worlds in Upland, CA. We cite a shameful lack of enthusiasm, an inablity to drink and ride, and the overwhelming softness of the aforementioned shit-talkers as contributions to our default victory. Any formal party not in attendance at Upland still wishing to derby for rights to the 2000 worlds may make an attempt at any of this year's remaining MMFMSSS rallys. Bring 48 hole wheels.

Regardless, we encourage one-speeders from all corners of the globe to contact us and plan for their pilgrimage to Minneapolis. Missing in particular from the '99 worlds were contingents from Denver and the east-coast. Family, friends, NORBA defectors, spectators, and even you fish-and-chip eatin' limey bastards are welcome; we promise an event worth traveling for. Mark those calendars for Saturday, May 13th, 2000.

The international single-speed rule will apply for this event: No rules. However, riders and their equipment may be forcibly modified to comply with the whims of the masses at any time. In the tradition of the Official Single-Speed Worlds, both the men's and women's "winners" will receive professional skin art on the premises, courtesy of Jules. Don't want ink? Don't "win". Many, many other prizes will be awarded from an international array of sponsors, to be announced at a later date, as will directions, lodging, and course information.

We wish to thank Mark@TCB cyclery, Kenny@S&M and Ballbreaker for making the '99 worlds a success, and especially to Mark for passing the torch to the rightful heirs of the 2000 event.
