Victoria School League Kicks off April 22: Riders contact your school
Courtesy Lister Farrar
The Victoria School Cycling League is set to begin Tuesday April 22nd. The league is a six event series introducing a variety of racing to middle and high school students. Events include SkilzJam (a judged skills (mtb) competition), the Super D (extended downhill), XC Short Track, Bankings and Speed (velodrome event), the City Championship XC, and Berms and Bumps bmx event. Bikes and instruction are provided for the velodrome and bmx events. The provincial championship XC is May 24 in Squamish.
Riders must be registered via their school athletic director. Interested riders or their coach or parents should contact your schools athletic director as soon as possible. For schools that need a coach, please contact Lister Farrar at listerfarra@telus.net and we may be able to find a local coach to help out at your school.
All schools require a school-approved sponsor teacher or parent.
For more info on the series, www.sd61.bc.ca will be updated shortly.
Many thanks to league commissioner Dave Piercy of Central Middle School, Dave Shishkoff and the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association, Neil Rich and Greater Victoria BMX, Bruce Tonkin, Rob Logie and Oak Bay bikes (courses, equipment, bike check and staff time), and all the school coaches and parent volunteers.
