Brandon Crichton Trains with Al Gore for The Climate Project - Canada

Vancouver resident and UBC student, Brandon Crichton recently completed The Climate Project - Canada training program led by Nobel Laureate Al Gore to spread the message about the challenges of and solutions to the climate crisis.

"Brandon is an outstanding example of the millions of Canadians who have been energized by the call to action on the climate crisis," said Gore. "We are so pleased that he has made a serious commitment to this challenge by participating in The Climate Project - Canada's training session in Montreal."

As one of 275 Canadians trainees, Brandon will present mainly in and around Vancouver, discussing how individuals in their homes, businesses and communities can take the actions necessary to reduce their environmental impact and urge others to action.

Brandon was part of a select group of individuals chosen to receive this important training April 4-6 in Montreal. Each presenter took part in an intensive session about issues surrounding climate change, led by Gore and Dr. Andrew Weaver, who was the scientific advisor. In addition, each presenter received technical training to become experienced communicators of a version of Gore's slideshow, which became the basis of his best-selling book and Academy Award-winning documentary film, "An Inconvenient Truth."

Brandon Crichton: "There are so many ways each individual person can embrace the challenge of global warming and do their part to solve this crisis. A simple step, as easy as riding a bike to work instead of driving vehicles, is a brilliant example of forward thinking." Brandon Crichton.

Crichton also commented, "I've been fortunate as a professional cyclist to travel the world, racing in many countries and have witnessed the crisis of climate change firsthand. I can remember racing in Japan with poor air quality, also racing in Venezuela where gas is cheap and used ineffiecently and where garbage is burned 24 hours a day. Seeing these things have made this decision to educate and motivate people to make a change extremely important to me. I have worked for 4 years with Clean Air Champions educating youth on alternative modes of transportation; now it is time to educate everyone on the solutions needed."
