The second Canada Cup XC of this season was held in Mont-Tremblant (May 24-25) on the same course as the last couple of years. As usual, for Tremblant, the course was muddy with a lot of roots, rocks and wood bridges. It was a fun and difficult course with good technical sections and two main climbs. Even with the mud the entire course was ridable. The 6 km lap was held around the village of Mont-Tremblant, all the best for the spectators to see the riders. It was a warm sunny day and I won my second consecutive Canada Cup (Senior Men). The Senior Elite men completed 5 laps with an average of 23 minutes per lap with a winning time of 1hour 54minutes.

For that second Canada Cup of the season, I defended well my leaders jersey. I had a good first lap with the lead group of for riders (Toulouse, Watson, Zandstra and I). My plan was to start conservatively but after one and a half laps, I felt very good on the climb and through the technical sections. I decided to attack and opened a gap of 5 to 10 second after a technical section followed by a climb. Andrew Watson was the only one from the group who chased and he would eventually finish 2nd.

Near the end of the third lap I made a mistake on a corner in the village and fell, no injuries to myself but my derailleur was bent. I stopped immediately to fix it to avoid a possible chain break. This cost me approx. 30 seconds and it could have cost me my victory! I did a good job fixing it and had no further problems with shifting for the last two laps. After 3 laps I was 1 minutes ahead of Watson, 1min45sec in the 4th lap and finished with 2 minutes and 31 seconds over Watson, Mathew Hadley crossed the line in third position.

The race went well for me and I felt good climbing and in control on the in the slippery sections. One of the challenges in the single track sections was to try to pass other category riders. It was a fun course but with almost no spectators on 90% of the course.

With a second victory in Canada Cup I am now officially selected for the U23 world championship in Italy on June 20th. My objective is to do top 10 there.

I will (probably) go to Canada Cup round #3 at Hardwood Hills (May 31-June 1). Stay tuned, I'll keep you in touch about that race.

Aujourd'hui avait lieu la 2e coupe canada de vélo de montagne au Mont-Tremblant et j'ai gagné dans la catégorie sénior élite conservant ainsi mon titre de leader en coupe canada.

Nous avions 5 tours de 6.2 km à faire dans des conditions vaseuses et glissantes. Le parcours comportait 2 longues montées, une première de 6 minutes et l'autre de 3 minutes.

J'ai eu un bon premier tour roulant avec le groupe de tête, nous étions quatre. Contrairement à la semaine dernière à Bromont je me sentais plus dominant dans les montées et très habile techniquement.

À la fin du second tour, j'ai pris la tête de la course dans une section technique et j'ai rapidement creusé un écart de 20 secondes sur le groupe.
Cette avance est passée à 45 secondes dans le 3e tour, 1min 40 dans le 4e tour et 2min31sec au fil d'arrivée après 5 tours. Andrew Watson et Mathew Hadley ont respectivement complété le podium.

Après 3 tours j'ai chuté dans un virage serré et j'ai dû composer avec un bris mécanique. En fait, en chutant mon dérailleur a plié déréglant ainsi mes vitesses, j'ai rapidement arrangé le tout connaissant bien la mécanique en vélo. Le reste de la course s'est déroulé sans pépin sur ce parcours très technique, car il était humide avec beaucoup de racines et de roches glissantes. Le parcours du Mont-Tremblant me plaisait beaucoup.

Je suis très satisfait de cette 2e victoire en 2 courses sur le circuit des coupes canada, je conserve mon titre de leader en coupe canada. Avec ces 2 bonnes courses, je suis officiellement sélectionné pour les championnats du monde qui auront lieu en Italie le 20 juin puisque l'équipe nationale prend les 2 meilleurs résultats en coupe Canada pour sélectionner les athlètes.

Je serai présent la semaine prochaine en Ontario pour la 3e coupe canada et défendre mon titre de leader en coupe canada.
