It is with great regret I have decided to withdraw from Canada Cup #3 in Hardwood Hills, Ontario.
Earlier this year, while training, I experienced a very sharp and painful tearing sensation under the lateral facet of my right patella. Ever since, my knee has given me varying degrees of discomfort and has an audible 'click' upon extension.
Early season training went well, however, as I increased intensity to prepare for competition the problem began to manifest itself and I had difficultly maintaining my training program.
X-rays of my knee revealed very little. And an MRI only left the Orthopaedic surgeons guessing. A combination of Physio, Chiro, and Massage therapy has helped but has not resolved the problem. Five years ago I suffered a complete vertical fracture on the lateral side of my right patella. There is speculation, among the specialists, that my problem may be a loose fragment of scar tissue from this previous injury. Arthroscopic surgery later this year will confirm if this is, in-fact, the case.
My decision to withdraw is disappointing but I am confident that it is the right thing to do at this time. I will be flying home this evening and taking some time to better evaluate my situation. I wish everyone the best of luck at Hardwood.
