Greater Victoria Velodrome Association Trackfest
Courtesy The Burnaby Velodrome Club
Two solid days of track racing in Victoria,BC on July 5th and 6th. The schedule will be coming out soon, and will include quite a few madisons, keirins, points, and scratch races, plus a mini-UCI omnium style race.
The GVVA needs to have a really good presence over at the track. The Victoria velodrome is being threatened with permanent removal, and it will only be through support from the community and from the riders that will prevent this gem of a facility from being torn out and replaced with all-season soccer fields. This past weekend at the Provincial Championships, the organizers were able to get the track on TV quite a few times, and also had a good spectator turnout because of it. Excitment and awareness is building, and it's up to everyone to provide the entertainment. Pass the word, and fill the track!
A minimum of $3000 will be distributed between the July 5/6 and Aug 16/17 Trackfests, which will go a long way to offsetting any travel expenses to the events.
Car-pooling and billets from Vancouver (including camping at the track) can be arranged through the BVC
