HP International Womens Classic
It is only two days until the start of the HP stage race, certainly the most difficult women's stage race in North America. The race runs from June 9th to the 20th, and covers 1,112 km in 13 stages. Canadians have traditionally done very well at this race, with Linda Jackson coming in as defending champion. Jackson will be back as leader of her Timex team. Some of the other Canadians in this year's race include a Canadian National squad made up of a mix of road and mountain bike riders (Sandy Espeseth, Andrea Hannos, Sue Palmer-Komar, Chrissy Redden, Anne Samplonius, Alison Sydor); the Elita team (Cybil DiGuistini, Annie Gariepy, Kim Langton, Sophie St Jacques); Team Physical Culture (Marg Fedyna, Leah Goldstein, Gina Grain, Karen Timewell); and Saturn (Lyne Bessette, Clara Hughes).
As a side note: we received a telephone call from David Cathcart this morning as the Elita team was making its way to Idaho (in Indiana, next stop Iowa!), just wanting to know how the First Union race had finished - they had to head out before official results came out. David has promised reports from the HP.
You might want to visit the race website - you can go in and send a message to individual riders before the start of the race. The address is: www.hpiwc.com
Happy Birthday To...
Sophie St Jacques of Team Elita (currently somewhere in the American mid-west...).
