Second Doping Positive at the Tour
Barloworld's Moises Duenas has become the second rider to receive a positive result for EPO in his A sample urine test at the Tour de France. Duenas' positive came from a sample collected after Stage 4, the 29 kilometre time trial held on July 8th. Barloworld has immediately suspended the rider, and issued the following statement:
At nine o'clock this morning Team Barloworld was informed by the AFLD of the positive test of Moises Duenas Nevado taken at the end of the fourth stage time trial in Cholet on July 8.
The rider was immediately suspended by Team Barloworld and did not start the eleventh stage of the Tour de France from Lannemezan-Foix.
"I'm shocked," team manager Claudio Corti said. "I want to find out more about what has happened before going into detail and taking further action. However the one thing I will say is that the team is not involved in this story at all and we'll take severe action against anyone who damages our credibility and the image of our team."
Manuel Beltran of the Liquigas team was the first rider to receive a positive A sample for EPO, and was immediately removed by his team. The results of Beltran's B sample are still pending.
