UCI chief announces end to cycling feud
World cycling chief Pat McQuaid says a long-running feud that has "split the cycling family" is nearing its end, as he announced the creation of a new world cycling calendar.

International Cycling Union (UCI) president Mr McQuaid has been fighting resistance from major race organisers, including the Tour de France, in recent years following disagreements over the Pro Tour calendar of races.

Leading the fight against the UCI's ambitious vision for an elite series has been the powerful Amaury Sports Organisation (ASO), the company which owns the Tour de France among other major sports events.

Mr McQuaid said that thanks to a "mediator" from the International Olympic Committee, the UCI has taken a major step towards making its peace with ASO.

UCI head: doping doesn't threaten Olympic cycling
The president of cycling's governing body Monday insists the doping problems in his sport do not threaten its place in the Olympics.

John Fahey, head of the World Anti-Doping Agency, has suggested that cycling and weightlifting must clean up their acts or risk being tossed from the Olympics.

"It isn't Mr. Fahey's job to decide who is in the Olympic program," UCI president Pat McQuaid said. "Up to now we have always had support from the IOC and, in particular, from the president, Jacques Rogge."
