KONA-ADOBE Road Cycling Team looks for a few riders for 2009 and additional Marketing Partnerships

After its' 6th successful season, the Vancouver, BC based KONA-ADOBE Road Cycling team is getting the jump on 2009. BC is the place to be for Canadian road cycling and KONA-ADOBE will continue to be a highly visible part of this. We are looking for a few male riders who are serious about their sport to add to our solid team which includes current and past National champions. As well, we are looking to expand our marketing partner base so that we can do more to help our developing riders and get them to some larger races. Please forward to interested riders and to companies that could benefit from being involved with a community based team with a strong charitable aspect.

Our mission is to develop riders, teach them teamwork in a professionally run team environment while promoting the sport of cycling and our marketing partners. KONA-ADOBE is a stepping stone between a club or junior level program and a full professional team. We aim to develop skills on and off the bike to prepare riders who want to advance in the sport or aspire to become a professional cyclist. Our program offers product and some financial support, but more importantly, an environment focused on developing a riders ability to ride as part of a team.

If you or someone you know will be or want to be in or near the greater Vancouver area for the 2009 road race season, we would like to hear from you right away. You could be a cat 1/2 rider looking for a well run team that focuses on BC and Pacific Northwest racing or an espoir or junior rider that could benefit from our program.

The Hub/Devinci CX team

The first race of the season for The Hub/Devinci Cyclocross Team was truly a great kick off to the 2008 season. The course was flat with one set of barriers and one mud hole. The course was about 2.5 km in length. With temps hitting 37 deg with the humidity it was definitely a challenge for everyone.

The gun went of at 1:15pm with 17 Master 1 and 12 Senior 1 riders charging for the hole shot. As the racers came towards the barriers it was evident that the pace was going to be very fast.

Over the next hour every racer out there dug deep into their reserves to try to hang on and jockey for position. The out come saw Peter Mogg take overall and first in Master 1. Erik Box finished 3rd overall and 2nd in Senior 1. While at the back of the Master 1 pack Clifford Vanclief managed a 13th placing.

The next race will be Valley Park in Stoney Creek on Sept 21/2008. Watch for Peter Mogg and Erik Box to be out to defend their success and do battle with Ontario's best cyclocross racers.


Emily Batty confirmed at Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer

Emily Batty (6th U23 XC Worlds) is confirmed for the Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Squeezer in St.Catharines on Sunday 28 September. Top contenders are racing within their own, dedicated 3:00pm wave. Total cash prizes are $5000, going 15 places deep. $1000 for first place, Men and Women. The Men's category (at time of typing) is wide open... The '07 purse was taken by Mike Garrigan and Amanda Sin.

Intermontane Challenge

On-line registrationfor the 2009 event opens on Sept. 20th at noon PST

On September 6th, The Intermontane Challenge attracted people from all over North America to preview a part of one of the world's most unique and lucrative mountain bike races. Some of the City's dignitaries were also on hand to celebrate Kamloops introducing this world class event to the community.

The 450-kilometre race takes place in Kamloops July 27-31, 2009 and is the only race of its size in the world to feature a single-track, clover leaf design. The distinctive design allows racers to tackle a different part of the course each day while establishing a home base in Kamloops every night.

Byron McCorkell, director of parks and recreation for the City of Kamloops, says, "The Intermontane has all the makings of a unique sporting event. The race tests a rider's strength, endurance and courage."

Highlights of the preview included perfect trail conditions and riders having the opportunity to experience a section of the newly designed track as well as witness Kamloops' beautiful vistas. To commemorate the great day, a group photo was taken of riders on the famous Deer Run Trail.

"The trails were very beautiful, ride-able and extremely challenging," says Laurie Woodbury from Minnesota. Woodbury and her husband made the trek to Kamloops to register for the 2009 event. The pair decided to miss their 15th Ironman to check out the Intermontane Challenge.

With the preview behind them, the Intermontane Challenge team is focusing on the race itself. The cross-country stage race will span five days and feature a purse of $60,000 for both men and women, which is three times as much prize money as any race in North America. The Challenge will be open to 300 competitors from all over the world. It will have categories for men and women and will include solo and two-rider teams.

To date, the race is already five per cent pre-sold, and online registration opens September 20th 2008.

"We want to thank everyone who came from far and wide to be a part of the preview! It really means a lot to us and it is great to see all the smiles and support that came with it," says Kelly Servinski, director of marketing for the Challenge. "We are all looking forward to the big day, July 27th 2009, when the start gun goes off and the race for the largest cash purse in mountain bike history begins."
