Local cyclists are gearing up for the Second Annual Tour of University Heights in the University Heights area of North York.
The Second Annual Tour of University Heights will take place Saturday, September 27th on a 2km road circuit starting at the Driftwood Community Centre, just north of Jane St. & Finch Ave. Many of Ontario's top cyclists are expected to compete in this one day event.
Organized by the Ontario Cycling Association, with support from the City of Toronto and Toronto Police Service, the event will see more than 120 City of Toronto Youth race on bicycles provided by the Ontario Cycling Association. Following the event, the each participant will get to take their bicycle home.
The Tour of University Heights race kicks off with Toronto youth racing at 9am on Saturday morning. Teams will be comprised of youth between the ages of 7-18 from community groups from around the city.
"The Tour of University Heights provides the opportunity for these kids to experience what competitive cycling is all about and hopefully will not only inspire them, but spark their interest in cycling and physical activity. The opportunity for them to compete is great but most of all the goal of this day is to have fun." explains Ontario Cycling Association Technical Director Matthew Knight.
The noon hour will feature an open race comprised of some of Ontario's top road cyclists (including some members of Ontario's Provincial Cycling Team). The afternoon will see youth cyclists from across Ontario compete for a chance to have their named recognized on the George Terry Cup.
