The Burnaby Velodrome and Forest City Velodrome are pleased to announce that a team of 4 Juniors have been selected to attend a European race weekend in Manchester England. The race event takes place on Saturday October 4th and Sunday October 5th at the Manchester Velodrome (home of the 2008 Elite World Track Cycling Championships). The team leaves for England on Wednesday October 1st. Included in the trip will be a few hours investigating how the Great Britian track team prepares for the up coming World Cup season.
This junior development program is made possible, by Gord Singleton through his connections in England. "We hope to make this an annual trip as an incentive to our Candian youth racers" said Singleton. "This program of events will see Juniors from the United States, France, Germany, Belgium and Italy all taking part in the weekend of racing".
2 riders from British Columbia will be attending, Jacob Schwingboth and Scott Mulder. Along with 2 riders from Ontario, Allan Leparskas and Ryan Aitcheson. All 4 riders will split the competition between sprints and endurance events, with Schwingboth and Aitcheson racing in the Junior Madison on the Saturday evening.
Terry Dethridge from the Bicycle Shop in Brantford Ontario will be the team's mechanic, with Gord Singleton handling rider race prep.
We will be sending race updates, throughout the weekend.
Thanks to Gord Singleton for laying the ground work for this exceptional opportunity for these 4 young athletes.
