CCA's National Track Team Plans: for 2008/2009 Season

The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce the following plans for the coming Track Season. Firstly, Richard Wooles has been contracted to fill the role of Track Coach until March 31st and will work alongside Tanya Dubnicoff. Our goal is to develop riders with the potential to medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and to come out of the 08/09 season with a clear pathway for 2009 and beyond.

Athletes who believe that they have the potential to medal at a major Games in the next four years should email Richard Wooles (richard.wooles@canadian-cycling.com ) with their current race results and the reasons why they have what it takes to contribute to Olympic medal performances. This must be submitted to the coach by October 3rd, 2008.

In addition, selected athletes will be invited to a training camp in Los Angeles from the 30th of October to the 2nd of November 2008. This camp will allow riders to perform at their current level with the goal of being identified by the appointed CCA Coach. This camp is only for those riders that will commit, 100%, to the National Track Program for the next 4 years, those that can't, should not attend. The goal of this camp will be to identify the pool of riders for the National Team aiming at London 2012. Hotel, airport transfers, and track time will be covered for those selected. Riders will need to pay for their own flight and food. These athletes will be contract by October 9th, 2008. Some existing senior riders will be targeted for Beijing and Copenhagen World Cups in order to qualify for the World Championships in Poland (in exceptional cases, we may send riders to Manchester and Cali).

This will be the first of 2 or 3 camps planned over the winter months with more information to follow based on the post-camp evaluation. The 2009-2012 plan will be unveiled once funding has been approved by Podium/Road to Excellence in December 2008.
