Hillbilly Hustle Cyclocross October 4th, Duntroon, ON
Report by Steve Ferguson, results by Peter Glassford

Presented by HBCC
Sponsored by: Outdoor Gear Canada, Epic Ride Orangeville, Digica.net, Sound Solutions

Senior Men
The Senior Men's race lined up with many of the heavy hitters in Ontario Cyclocross including defending Hillbilly Hustle Jacket winner Andrew Watson, 2007 National Cyclocross Champion Mike Garrigan, former National U23 champion, Kyle Douglas, and 2007 Hillbilly Hustle silver medal winner Erik Box. It was announced prior to the race that the Senior Men would be competing for a $200 first lap Prime courtesy of Digica.net. Out of the start, Garrigan took the early lead and as the riders came back over the tunnel 2/3 of the way through the course, he had 10 seconds over his nearest competitor. Garrigan would hold this first lap lead and took the Digica.net prime convincingly.

The race would come back together as Watson and Box were able to bridge to Garrigan. The three riders stayed together through the second lap, until Garrigan damaged his front wheel trying to bunny-hop the double barrier run up. This gave Watson a gap of which he subsequently increased each and every lap to take the win and his second straight Hillbilly Hustle Jacket.. Garrigan and Box battled it out for the remainder of the race, with Garrigan taking second in a sprint finish. 4th went to Kyle Douglas and 5th to David Coughlin.

Master 1 Men
The Master 1 racers were told on the line that they would be battling for the $75 Sound Solutions first lap prime. With the usual M1 podium threats in attendance (including Mogg, Croutch, Ingram and Dermont) it was expected to be a tight race. Off the start Peter Mogg, as he done in a number of races this year, took the lead and never looked back taking the Sound Solutions Prime and riding away with the win. Last year's winner, Andrew Croutch maintained second place throughout the race while Ted Ingram battled Dave Dermont for third, with Ingram prevailing. Ed Makarchuk had his strongest cyclocross showing to date looking sharp for 5th place on the podium.

The Senior Women's and the Master 2 Men's race were dominated from start to finished by Californian residents Katrina Baumstieger and Edwin Rambuski respectively. Other winners included Jarrod Stafford in the Junior Men's race, Eva Grabinski in the Master Women's, Chris Stone in the Under 17, Brad Stafford in the Master 3 men and Scott Luscombe in the Beginner men.

Overall it was a great day which wouldn't have been possible without our sponsors; Digica and Sound Solutions for their Prime's, Epic Ride and Outdoor Gear Canada for donating prizes and Highlands Nordic for allowing the HBCC to host this event once again.
