Chrissy‚s Race Report

The weekend was full of racing of all kinds! We joined the downhillers, dual slalomers and amateurs for a fun packed weekend in Big Bear, California (just a mere 7000 ft up from LA...). The women raced on Sunday morning at 10 AM, which was just fine for myself considering the blazing sun and heat.

The course was an 8 km loop which climbed for the first 3 km, then false flat climbed for about 2 km, followed by an awesome descent, bringing us back to the start/finish. There were a lot of fire roads and switchbacks across the ski runs, so there wasn't a lot of coverage from the sun. A very difficult course, but a good one, especially considering the organizer only got the event 7 weeks ago!

The women's race was 4 laps plus 2 start laps. Alison Sydor took the lead immediately and maintained it throughout the race. Following close on her heels were Annabella Stropparo, Gunn-Rita Dahle and Caroline Alexander. Gunn-Rita flatted on the first lap and Caroline had a nasty crash on the second, leaving Annabella in second. My race started out slow, but I picked my way up to 10th place by the finish. After competing at the Hewlett Packard Laser Jet Women's Challenge (12 days, 13 stages), I feel my strength coming on and feel very optimistic for next week's race in Canmore, Alberta, CANADA!
