Cycling Coach Nominated for Coaching Award

Steve Burke, the Head Coach at the Olympic Oval National Cycling Centre has been nominated a coaching award through TSN. He has made the final four nominees, and now it comes down to public voting. He has sent the following appeal for support.

Dear Friends in Sport,

It is with great pleasure I contact you today as I was recently nominated for a Coaching Award by one of my Para Cycle Athletes here in Calgary. This is the first year for the TSN-Chunky Most Valuable Coach award and there were over 530 nominations from across the country. Two weeks ago I received a call from TSN telling me that I was one of the four finalists and that I would be included in a TSN TV & Web Commercial, as well as other promotional events here in Calgary. The 4 Finalists will be named and made public on Monday March 2nd, this is also when TSN will start running the commercials that profile the 4 finalists. The next step in the process requires my Family, Friends, Athletes and the General Public to vote on line for their favorite coach. Voting will start on Monday March 2nd and will end on March 29th....the regulations permit multiple votes as long as they come from different email addresses so basically you can vote 1/day/e-mail address for the duration of the Voting Period.

If you could spread the word and generate more support I would really appreciate it; I know now that of the 3 finalists I am the only one in the west and that I am also the only one from the Para Sport Community, so your help and support is greatly appreciated. No matter what the outcome the process has been a lot of fun and I am sure the Para cycle program will gain a lot of attention and interest from across the country. Also note that each week a draw will be made from the votes received that week and the winner will receive a year's supply of Chunky Soup; I haven't received any soup yet but I understand that they calculate a year's supply to be 8 cases of the big cans and another case of the smaller "Chunky to go".

It has been an honor just making the top 4 so no matter what the outcome I truly do feel grateful to the athletes and programs I've been involved with over the past 12 years of Coaching.

Sincerely

Stephen Burke
