Editor's Note: When we received this, it was talking about a 'Canadian National Team' of athletes, however, Chris Atkins followed up with the following clarification:
I've worked with the organizer Jeff in bringing a team to the Tobago cycling classic a few times now. What he's looking for is only a composite team of top level track athletes (not necessarily national team riders)...but category I level riders...please update before posting in the news if possible. It sounds like a great event, with good support. Jeff fights hard for the sport in Trinidad gaining sponsors and taking care of athletes. This event will definitely not disappoint.
We are inviting a Canadian Cycling Team of 4 Cyclists & 1 Coach to compete at the Petrotrin International Cycling Series in Trinidad. Dates - April 14th to April 19th 2009.
We are offering the Canadian Cycling Team the following:
3 Free Air Travel Tickets from Toronto & Free Accommadation & Meals for 5 persons for 9 days.
The proposed itinerary of 5 International Events are as follows:
Tuesday, April 14th - International Criterium - approx. 60 miles
Wednesday, April 15th - International Track Racing
Friday, April 17th - International Criterium - approx. 50 miles
Saturday, April 18th - International Circuit Race - Approx. 60 miles
Sunday, April 19th - Palo Seco Games - Track Racing
This Event will coincide with the Commonwealth & the Americas Heads of Government Conference to be staged in Port of Spain, Trinidad from April 14th to April 17th. Of course, Canada's Prime Minister & other Canadian Dignitaries will be in Trinidad for the Conference. There will be a major influx of some of the most important VIPs in the world coming in to Trinidad for this Conference, including Barack Obama. We would like to put on a great show for these world leaders.
We look forward to confirmation from a Canadian Cycling Team by March 14th.
This Event is Sanctioned by the Trinidad & Tobago Cycling Federation & the Caribbean Cycling Association.
